Hello,

I installed winux on a desktop PC, it was working perfectly. But now, when I start my PC and log in, it tells me this:

Why is it asking me for a license? Isn't it supposed to be free? What should I do to get this Linux for free?

Thanks in advance.

Wubuntu doesn't have a good reputation.. It uses proprietary code and doesn't really respect Linux GPL licenses.
Who knows what's inside and who’s watching what you do...!

If you want to test Linux, try Ubuntu
https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

But you won't have the Windows presentation...

Hello,

Winux is free, but to use the features of PowerTools, you need to purchase a license key (valid for life).

Well alright, but how can I get rid of that and just use the free version, because it shows that at startup and I have no way to remove it. Yet I haven't done anything, and I don't want to use premium features.

Have you downloaded the ISO from this link? And what happens if you click on "Cancel" or on the cross in the picture?

I was on Wubuntu and I clicked on download,

When I click on the cross or cancel, the message disappears and leaves a blue screen, after a while the message comes back.

Do you think I should reinstall it?

Hello,

I need someone to explain to me, aside from the legal questions (use of Windows and Ubuntu codes and logos), the interest in Wubuntu. A large number of current Linux distros have a very "Windows Friendly" graphical interface.

To answer the question, as far as I've read, Wubuntu must inevitably use Power Tools to mimic Windows, and therefore cannot function for free.

More generally, one wonders why we come back almost every day to install something "new" where recently, regarding Lubuntu (it doesn't matter if we replace L with K or nothing), we were cryptically told we had to call a "customer service" when we don't see any particular difficulties with these installations.

Perhaps before spreading ourselves too thin, it would be wise to focus on the simple things?

Hello,

If it's the Windows interface that attracts you and the ability to use Windows applications, install an official version of Windows in dual-boot with a mainstream Linux distribution. You can get a Windows license for a few euros online. There's no reason to hold back if that's what you want; it will probably cost you less than the power tools license for that winux, wubuntu, linuxfx or windowsfx (it’s hard to keep track, it changes all the time) and at least all Windows apps will work natively when you need them.

This distro is just a money grab, a way for its authors to make some cash by using other people's work. Unfortunately, it's not the only one... There are always people looking for good opportunities, even if it means crossing the legal line.

Hello,

I didn't see on their site that you need a key unless you opt for a premium/professional version. So maybe it's an issue with your installation and reinstalling could solve your problem. But before that, I would ask them if this is normal: [email protected].

However, I don't know many people who use Winux. Often, Windows users who need Linux tend to consider WSL2 instead.

Good luck

I contacted support but they never replied. Otherwise, what do you think is the best Linux distribution for my PC?
